The Case Of The Vanishing Bees
Beekeepers In 22 States Report Insects Disappearing In Huge Numbers, But They're Not Sure Why
Full Story Here
Beekeepers and scientists have a baffling mystery in their hives. Bees in 22 states are disappearing at an alarming rate, John Blackstone reports. How does this affect us?  For many crops, bees are the only efficient way to pollinate. More...

Are mobile phones wiping out our bees?

It seems like the plot of a particularly far-fetched horror film. But some scientists suggest that our love of the mobile phone could cause massive food shortages, as the world's harvests fail.  Read More...
Pollen Nation follows one migratory beekeeper and a semi-load full of honeybees from Minnesota to California, investigating why bees are dying in record numbers. It's a science documentary disguised as an American road movie, and the first film to explore what happens when pollination -- nature's ancient and ingenious intersection of plants and insects -- becomes a global commodity. Are these queens Laying?
Yes.

How are queens shipped?

USPS Express Mail or Priority Mail. We cage the queens the morning they are shipped so they will be in the best condition possible. Sometimes poor weather will force us to delay shipping until the next day. We will send an e-mail when they do ship. We may also have to delay shipping if the temperature is excessively hot to avoid overheated and dead queens in shipment.

What queen cages do you use?

We use the plastic JZ-BZ queen cages. They are lightweight, and we find it easier to place then between top bars for introduction because they are narrower than many wooden cages. They are also easier to open for those who use press in introduction cages.

Do you bank queens?

We avoid banking queens if at all possible. We rear queens in 4 or 5 frame nucs so they may be stored in a nuc for a few days.

Can I pickup my queens?

You are welcome to stop by to pickup your queens. Please do call first to make sure we'll be here.

Moonbeam Queens:  A special hybrid that was developed for northern commercial apiaries. These eager girls tend to be the first out of the hive in the morning and the last to return (usually in the dark, hence the name). They build up fairly early in the spring comparatively. They winter in nice clusters without overloading the brood chambers with honey, and they have a very low swarm rate.

Sunkist Cordovan:  Beautiful, Calm, and Easy to locate. These very heavy laying queens produce extra large colonies of gentle, hard working bees with light "Amber/Peach" coloration and the minimal banding of the Cordovan genetics.
Used primarily by commercial operations for their climatic adaptability and very heavy laying, but also a favorite for hobbists, and universities for their gentle nature, interesting color, and sturdy colonies.

Northern acclimated, VSH, and treatment free!
